FAQs

We’ve put together a few answers to things customers regularly ask us about our dals. If you want to know more about any of them or have a question we haven’t covered here, then get in touch.

We deliver all around mainland Britain, excluding the Highlands and Islands.

Our pouches are recyclable – either at a bag collection point at your local supermarket or in kerbside recycling where flexi-plastic is accepted.

If you ordered on our webshop, the cardboard box and insulation are recyclable and the ice packs can be recycled at a bag collection point at your local supermarket or in kerbside recycling where flexi-plastic is accepted.

Your dals will be delivered to you chilled. You can cook them straight from the box, you can pop them in the fridge as soon as they arrive or, alternatively, you can freeze them at home and enjoy them at a later date. Please always check the use by date.

We are extremely careful about what goes in to our products. Almost all the ingredients we use are organic and all of our products are Soil Association Organic certified. The only non-organic ingredient we use are the curry leaves in our Tarka Dal as, thus far, we have been unable to find an organic supplier. We don't use any seed oils in our products - the only oil we use is organic coconut oil.

Once you've defrosted your dal, please eat it within 3 days.

We have found that, even if you sometimes struggle to digest pulses, our dals tend to be more gentle on the digestion system than other pulse-base dishes. This is because we carefully combine the lentils with spices that aid digestion. This method has been used in Indian cooking for thousands of years and comes from the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda - India's nature-based medical system. We also soak our mung beans for at least 12 hours hours before cooking which also helps aid digestion.

Our 400g pouches serve 1 person generously, or two people as a side dish or with accompaniments.

We season our dals with pink Himalayan salt. Salt brings out the natural flavours of the organic plant-based ingredients we use; it also helps us to naturally preserve our dals - this means we don't have to add any nasty preservatives. Humans need salt to survive but salt comes in many guises. We invest in the best possible salt we can get our hands on - naturally pink mineral salt from the Himalayas, unprocessed and high in minerals.
